The kese scrub and foam wash is the heart of the Turkish hammam tradition. Skin softened by the heat is first cleansed with a kese mitt, then softened with a rich foam wash. It looks simple, but done well it is a ritual that leaves you feeling truly renewed.

How is it done?

  1. Warm-up: a few minutes resting in the warmth so the skin and muscles soften.
  2. Scrub: the attendant scrubs the whole body with a special hammam mitt in even, controlled movements.
  3. Foam: rich foam made in a cotton bag is spread over the body and washed off with light massage movements.
  4. Rinse and rest: after rinsing with warm water, a few minutes of rest and some water are recommended.

How long does it take?

At EPHRA the scrub takes about 30 minutes. Combined with a massage, the total time depends on the massage you choose.

How often?

For most people every two to four weeks is enough. If you have sensitive skin, leave longer gaps and always tell the attendant. For regular visitors, 10-session packages are better value per session.

Before and after

  • Don't have a scrub on the same day as waxing, laser hair removal or sunbathing.
  • If you have an open wound, irritation or a skin condition, ask your doctor first.
  • A moisturiser afterwards soothes the skin.
  • Drink plenty of water and try to keep the rest of the day calm.

Combine it with a massage

The favourite combination is the Massage + Scrub package: cleanse first, then a relaxing massage. You can build your own package step by step on the booking page.
