In a hot stone massage, heated smooth stones are placed on points of the body and the therapist also uses them in the massage strokes. The combination of warmth and touch gives a deep, enveloping feeling of relaxation.
How is it done?
- The stones are heated to a safe temperature, which is tested on your skin.
- Stones are placed along the back, in the palms and between the toes.
- The therapist uses the stones with oil in long, flowing strokes.
- The session lasts about 75 minutes.
How is it different from a classic massage?
Because the warmth helps the muscles relax more easily, the therapist can give deep relaxation with less pressure. That makes it a good choice even if you don't like firm pressure.
Who should take care?
If you are pregnant or have circulation problems, diabetes, sensitive skin or high blood pressure, ask your doctor first. If the heat feels too much, say so straight away.
